Proposed Ballot Measure 24-512

Aumsville Fire District Local Option Levy

From all of us here at Aumsville Fire District, we want to say a sincere thank you to the Aumsville voters for passing our fire levy and allowing us to continue to support our district and our volunteers. We couldn't do what we do without your support.

The Aumsville Fire District provides emergency response and fire protection services to the community. In the upcoming election, voters have the opportunity to consider a measure, which if passed would authorize a local option levy.

If passed, the proposed levy would fund current operations, completion of station repairs, and maintenance of lifesaving equipment.

The measure would authorize property taxes in the amount of $0.44 per $1000 of assessed property value.  The owner of an average home assessed at $400,000 would pay $14.67 per month or $176 per year for a period of 5 years.  The property tax would raise approximately $1.6 million over the 5-year period.

In 2014, Aumsville voters passed a bond measure, which allowed the district to replace aging apparatus. These vehicles remain in good condition and continue to be used for emergency response, including regional wildland fire assistance. The revenue from these deployments has contributed to the district’s funding.  This levy expires December 2025.

Facility repairs have become a growing challenge. The main station was built in 1974, with additions in 2000, and the Shaw station was built in 1982, with updates in 1994. No major renovations have occurred since. As infrastructure ages, maintaining safe and functional fire stations becomes increasingly costly due to rising labor and material costs.

Aumsville Fire District operates as an independent fire district and is funded primarily through property taxes. It is governed by an elected board, separate from the City of Aumsville.

What the Proposed Measure Would Fund:

  • Station Maintenance & Repairs: The district’s facilities would be updated to ensure continued emergency response readiness.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Apparatus, rescue tools, and protective gear would be maintained and replaced due to wear and tear.

  • Emergency Response Services:  The district would continue to provide fire protection and emergency medical services at the current level.

Levy Details:

The proposed measure would fund the above operating costs by authorizing a property tax of $0.44 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
